General Questions

Trademark registration is the only way to legally protect your business name, logo, or slogan. An unregistered trademark has no legal protection in disputes; competitors can register the same name first and claim the rights. A trademark registered with TÜRKPATENT is protected throughout Turkey for 10 years and can be renewed indefinitely.

Yes. Every element that forms your commercial identity — even for small businesses — is worth registering. If you sell online, are active on social media, or plan to grow, trademark registration is essential. The longer you operate without registration, the greater the risk, and dealing with a potential opposition later becomes far more costly.

From application to registration certificate, the process typically takes around 6 months. Trademark protection begins from the filing date — so the application date is what matters most. Opposition proceedings or additional examination can extend the timeline beyond 6 months, but this is not the norm.

Registration with TÜRKPATENT is valid only within Turkey. For international markets, an international trademark application under the Madrid Protocol can be filed, or a separate application may be required in each target country. We also provide international registration services — contact us for details.

Application Process

Applications are filed through TÜRKPATENT's online system (integrated with the e-government portal). The process involves a trademark search, class determination, completing the application form, and paying the official fee. As your agent, we manage the entire process on your behalf and address any deficiencies in advance.

Trademarks are divided into 45 different goods and services classes under the International Nice Classification. Each application must include at least one class; each additional class means an additional fee. Choosing the right classes optimizes cost and ensures full protection in the areas where you actually use your mark. Incorrect class selection can create legal gaps down the road.

Yes. Applications can be refused for reasons such as the existence of a similar registered mark, use of a descriptive or misleading expression, or conflict with public order or morality. We conduct a comprehensive similarity search before filing to minimize these risks. If a refusal is issued, you have the right to appeal — a process we also handle on your behalf.

Not required, but strongly recommended. If a similar mark is already registered, your application may face an opposition — resulting in wasted time and money. We offer a free preliminary search of the TÜRKPATENT database before filing, and can also conduct a more in-depth analysis on request.

Cost & Payment

The total cost consists of our service fee, the official TÜRKPATENT fee, and VAT. Our service fee for a single class is ₺7,500 (excl. official fees and VAT). Official fee amounts are updated annually. For a precise total, contact us or visit our Pricing page.

Yes. Each additional class incurs both an additional TÜRKPATENT official fee and a supplementary service fee. We evaluate together how many classes you need and determine the most efficient structure for your application.

After Registration

Keep your certificate in a safe place and actively use your trademark in your business — marks that are not used for 5 years may be subject to cancellation proceedings. You can also monitor the Official Trademark Bulletin for similar applications filed by competitors, either independently or through our monitoring service.

Yes. Registration is valid for 10 years, and protection ends if it is not renewed. A renewal application can be filed up to 6 months before the expiry date. We track your renewal deadlines and remind you well in advance.

As the owner of a registered trademark, if you detect an infringement, you can pursue legal remedies such as sending a cease-and-desist letter, filing an opposition with TÜRKPATENT, or bringing a civil court claim for damages. These options are far more limited for an unregistered mark — which is precisely why registration is critical.
